Biography

Iqbal Habib is a practicing architect, urban designer and environmental activist. He is the co-founder of VITTI Sthapati Brindo Ltd., an architectural design that has been working in Bangladesh for over three decades. The firm aims to promote responsible architecture for society and the environment in the country. He graduated from Bangladesh University of Engineering & Technology in 1991 and is a Fellow at the Institute of Architects Bangladesh (IAB). In 2007, he became an Eisenhower Fellow on the topic of “Challenges of Urbanization.”

Apart from his architectural work, He is also enthusiastically involved in environmental advocacy. He is the Vice President of the Bangladesh Environment Movement (BAPA) and has been in activism not for a decade but “for more than two decades”. He is known for his participation and activism in saving urban wetlands and water bodies, which has created social awareness among politicians and citizens alike.
