Gulshan – Banani – Baridhara – Badda Lake Development aimed to regenerate an integrated urban condition of Dhaka becoming an urban oasis. The process involved identifying the needs and issues, through detailed surveys, improved through design concepts and pragmatic implementation. This environmentally responsive project has a comprehensive sustainable approach in terms of maximizing connectivity, water retention, recreation, social Integration and density relief. This development intended to pursue restoration, preservation and protection of the lake. The lake, which is an open area in the concrete urban fabric, along with the open green areas, maintains the ratio of the man-made environment to the natural environment in perfect balance. This lake is provided with facilities through an economically sustainable approach to maintain the delicate balance of the lake ecosystem and maintain social equity. The recreational facilities promote social integration between various age groups through active and passive engagement. The recreational and socio-cultural activities are located at the end of every vehicular road terminating near the lake edge. Different types of connectivity are promoted with alternative routes for ease of traffic and accessibility to the lake. The narrow and unsafe accessibility condition is altered to ensure continuous connectivity of neighborhoods to the lake edge for pedestrians.
